New Here?

Here are some commonly asked questions to get you started.

As an active and engaged congregation of the United Church of Christ (UCC) we believe in the Holy Trinity: God the Creator, the resurrected Christ and the Holy Spirit who guides and brings about the creative and redemptive work of God in the world.

  • We believe that each person is unique and valuable.
  • We believe that each person is on a spiritual journey and that each of us is at a different stage of that journey.
  • We believe that all baptized believers “belong body and soul to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” No matter who – no matter what – no matter where we are on life’s journey – notwithstanding race, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, class or creed – we all belong to God and to one worldwide community of faith.
  • We believe that God calls us to be servants in the service of others and to be good stewards of the earth’s resources.
  • We believe that God is still speaking.
  • We believe as a congregation of the UCC, Wentz is called to be a united and uniting church. “That they may all be one.” (John 17:21)

We value diversity, open communication, and welcome the contribution of new ideas. Wentz strives to provide an emotionally and physically safe and secure environment for all of God’s people.

We encourage all members to participate in the collective and collaborative ministries of the church. We believe everyone has a unique calling to serve and to actively engage in church ministries as they are able.

People belong by bringing their authentic selves. We value fellowship and every opportunity to not only serve side-by-side, but to have fun together.  While many of us gain a sense of belonging from gathering in person for Sunday worship services; we provide virtual streaming of the Sunday worship service as well. We have virtual Bible studies and in-person discussion groups.

Wentz Memorial United Church of Christ is an historic African American congregation that welcomes all people. Most African American places of worship would affirm that their music ministry is special. However, the music ministry at Wentz UCC is unique because it provides a variety of styles of sacred music including both gospel and traditional hymns as well as being one of the few places in Winston-Salem where African American spirituals are still performed, along with occasional secular offerings in styles from jazz to Broadway.  If you like all types of music, then Wentz UCC has something for you.
